The Promise 01:01
And as the young boy watches The dawn of a new rising sun He shuts his eyes and says once more ‘What has been I swear is done’
2.
Why do I embrace you when I want you out my life? You say that you’re a lover, but you’re also someone’s wife I don’t know Don’t wanna play the game no more You’re the first thing that I see when I open my eyes And every day and every night I just keep telling lies I don’t know Don’t wanna play the game no more Still you hold me back Still you hold me back again I know that you’re doing harm but I just can’t resist The sense of familiarity, your deadly hugs and kiss I don’t know Don’t wanna play the game no more Once again you’re laughing as I stumble to the door And as I fall, you take command and fuck me on the floor I don’t know Don’t wanna play the game no more Still you hold me back Still you hold me back again Why can’t this thing slide? If I could run and hide I would Until such time as you Are finally off my mind If I could run and hide I would Until such time from you Why can’t this thing slide? If I could run and hide I would Until such time as you Are finally off my mind If I could run and hide I would Until such time as you are gone And finally off my mind Why do I embrace you when I want you out my life? You say that you’re a lover, but you’re also someone’s wife But now I know, now I know Ain’t gonna play the game no more Still you hold me back Still you hold me back again

She wanders the streets with no direction Tears streaming down her face like a river Now she’s a sinner Now that her life is gone She can’t find answers to her questions She tries so hard But the wind’s blowing colder She’s getting older Wonders where her life is gone And her rage is getting higher Burning like a fire Burning ‘til this day is done How could he have let her down? How could he have dug the ground? ‘Cause there’s something bound to die tonight How could he have walked away? How could he be gone today? Yes, there’s something bound to die tonight He wanders the streets with no direction He hates himself for the life he is living Nothing he is giving Nothing ‘til this day is done If only he could turn the clock back And choose the road that leads to another Avenue and over Rays of a rising sun How could he have let her down? How could he have dug the ground? ‘Cause there’s something bound to die tonight How could he have walked away? How could he be gone today? Yes, there’s something bound to die tonight She won’t have a fool made of her She won’t have a fool made of her Who’ll have the final laugh?

Kick your shoes off, coat on the hook A drink and read a chapter of a book That you’ll never finish You didn’t even make it to bed Still the demons run riot in your head You thought they were finished Don’t wake Jack Let him sleep his blues away Don’t wake Jack He’ll be fine in the morning But he says that every morning Draw the curtains, phone off the hook Smashing mirrors to avoid how you look You’re making your own luck When there’s nowhere else you can go Step outside and give ‘em a show You promised them so much Don’t wake Jack Let him sleep his blues away Don’t wake Jack He’ll be fine in the morning But he says that every morning Kick your shoes off, coat on the hook A drink and read a chapter of a book That you’ll never finish You didn’t even make it to bed Don’t wake Jack Let him sleep his blues away Don’t wake Jack Let him dream of better days Don’t wake Jack Let him sleep his blues away Don’t wake Jack ‘Cause he’ll be fine in the morning But he says that every morning

Goodbye 04:14
Goodbye my love Goodbye my love I’m just not good enough for you Goodbye my love Goodbye my love I’m just not good enough for you For I have let you down And I can’t turn back time And I can’t fake my crime no more How did it come to this? Goodbye my love Goodbye my love I don’t deserve to be with you Goodbye my love Goodbye my love I’m just not good enough for you Temptation was too strong Into his arms I fell And I can’t fake this hell no more How did it come to this? He’s gonna pay for what he’s done Single-handedly destroyed us I never thought I’d know the thrill of a gun in my hand And life won’t be the same We’ve reached the end of the line And we can’t turn back time no more How did it come to this? How did it come to this? One last kiss Before I go
6.
I remember when life was fun But maybe we were far too young For vows and bells and wedding rings ‘Cause time has passed and we are not how we set out to be Somewhere I missed the line And I’m slowly going out of my mind I walk along this lonely street The time has passed and I am not how I set out to be With black clouds over me Tonight it ends Tonight it ends You’ve come this far but you’re going down tonight I’ll make sure Tonight it ends Tonight it ends You’ve come this far but you’re going down tonight Now a strange calm covers me And pushes out the misery I even crack a smile The time is now, the demons set to fly out of my head Soon you’re gonna be dead Gonna blow you out of my head Tonight it ends Tonight it ends You’ve come this far but you’re going down tonight I’ll make sure Tonight it ends Tonight it ends You’ve come this far but you’re going down tonight

No one ever saw it coming No one could’ve predicted this But there are questions to be answered What could drive a man to this? Calling witnesses And opening businesses of the heart Who shot Jack Rabbit to the ground? Three shots, bang! And he was down Left clutching his own head One minute from being dead One man’s pride won’t be broken One woman’s life in bits But do they really have the right To play God in all of this? But who is the one Who holds a smoking gun tonight? Who shot Jack Rabbit to the ground? Three shots, bang! And he was down Left clutching his own head One minute from being dead He’s so lucky to be alive
8.
I’m the loser in my own game Caught by the fear and the shame And I can still draw breath somehow It’s all that I’ve got now Turn around and start again One minute from the end And what has been I swear is done Burnt in the rising sun All the heartache, all the pain Self-induced torture, the fear and the shame All that’s been now I’ve got to let go For the young boy who never sleeps All the violence that he shouldn’t see For now and the future I’ve got to let go

about

What started out as a solo album by Paul Bearman led to the formation of a band during recording called The Sun Dog Collective. This is their debut release, featuring what we now call the Mark I line-up.

All money made from sales of the album were donated to Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), an award-winning mental health charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, on 18th January 2019. The grand total was £300.

“‘Who Shot Jack Rabbit?' is a profoundly personal body of work which you can subtract numerous meanings on any given day. One that always sticks is that mental health is very real and human kindness goes a long way. This record has already made over £250 for Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and will continue to raise more. You know what to do.”
